Because we have such a diverse population, it is important that we establish a region that has healthy race and community relations in which members of the population are able to contribute to the community confidently and do not live in fear of being victimized because of their differences. Our diversity is one of the strengths in making this region a world-class destination—socially, economically, and culturally.
This aspiration presents data and information for two indicators, which are listed in the grey panel on the right side of this page. Specifically, the two indicators within this aspiration report the following:
- Degree of segregation & dissimilarity: Degree of dissimilarity and segregation in the Dallas Primary Metropolitan Statistical Area (PMSA), based on the Lewis Mumford Center for Urban and Regional Research's Indices of Dissimilarity
- Hate crimes: Number of crimes motivated by religion, race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation occurring in the Dallas PMSA based on state, national, and local data
