What does this indicator measure?
This indicator identifies the total number of undergraduate and graduate degrees awarded in visual and performing arts by local public universities, as reported by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board .
Why is this indicator important?
This indicator is important because it helps provide insight regarding the number and nature of students graduating from schools of visual and performing arts. Students graduating from postsecondary visual and performing arts programs are likely candidates for prospective employment or active participation in the founding and operations of area arts organizations. In addition to this economic and cultural impact, opportunities to retain "creative class" workers in the Dallas area are important to the long-term growth and stability of the area’s cultural expansion strategy.
