The North Central Texas region has a long and rich history that is steeped with the diversity of its population. Today, with its variety of cultural arts activities, museums, and entertainment options, the Dallas region enjoys a prominent position among the cultural centers of the Southwest.
Within the context of a rapid and continuous growth in the size and diversity of the region's population, it is important for this region to continue to foster the development of the arts and cultural resources among its diverse communities. The benefits of cultural arts resources include offering entertainment, providing cultural enrichment and education resources, attracting tourism, improving the quality of life, and providing substantial economic impact. The Dallas region has little to lose and much to gain by adequately supporting local cultural arts and creative resources.
This aspiration presents data and information about three indicators, which are listed in the grey panel on the right side of this page. Specifically, the two indicators within this aspiration report the following:
- Creativity ranking index: Creative index score of the Dallas area and other metropolitan areas, as reported in The Rise of the Creative Class by Richard Florida
- Nonprofit arts organizations: Number of nonprofits that are classified within the Arts, Culture, and Humanities core code category of the National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities (NTEE)
