What does this indicator measure?
This indicator reports the demographic data reported by Dallas' Office of Cultural Affairs (OCA) Cultural Organization Program (COP) in fiscal year 2002-03.
Why is this indicator important?
This indicator is important because the Cultural Organization Program (COP) supports established Dallas Arts groups with over $4.2 million in annual operating support and $1.4 million to operate city owned facilities providing cultural services to the citizens of Dallas. Racial diversity helps to ensure that the opportunities for ethnic cultural expression, organization and operating input for Dallas’ arts organizations is sustained by board level representation of ethnically diverse members of the community.
How are we doing?
According to data provided by the Office of Cultural Affair's, Organizational Support Program Board Diversity Analysis, racial minorities comprised 27% of board membership and 39% of operating staffs for participating organizations during the 2002-03 fiscal year.
The ratios for minority board members and staff compare unfavorably to Dallas MSA 2000 census data wherein racial minorities comprise approximately 55% of the population.
