What does this indicator measure?
This indicator identifies the number and names of community festivals and celebrations that are held in the counties of the Dallas Primary Metropolitan Statistical Area (PMSA). If available, the Web site link for the festival is also provided. Neighborhood or community-based festivals stand in contrast to events hosted and funded by major arts organizations or corporations. Event data were obtained from the Texas Almanac .
Why is this indicator important?
Neighborhood festivals and events provide an opportunity for communities to come together in the spirit of celebration. While these events promote positive community relations and generate economic impact to the local hosting community, they also offer an opportunity to learn about the diversity of people and cultures within the counties of the Dallas PMSA. It is noted that this list is not meant to be a comprehensive catalog of all festivals and celebrations in the region. At best, it represents only the festivals that are reported by the Texas Almanac Web site. Users interested in additional information are encouraged to visit city or county Web sites, many of which include calendars that denote major events.
