The amount and types of cultural arts organizations available within a community offer little if any information about the equitable distribution of these resources. A significant presence of cultural arts organizations within a community does not guarantee that all members of the community will have equal access to these resources. Physical, cultural, and economic barriers often prevent the equitable enjoyment of cultural arts resources across the various subgroups within the population of a community. Communities with adequate cultural arts resources must not equate quantity or quality with equal access. They must continue to strive towards making all of their resources available to all members of the community.
This aspiration presents data and information for four indicators, which are listed in the grey panel on the right side of this page. Specifically, the four indicators within this aspiration report the following:
- Accessibility of cultural arts facilities & venues to children: Information from the Dallas Community Cultural Plan
- Community-based cultural centers: Availability of participatory arts and culture opportunities in the community, as indicated in the City of Dallas Calendar and the Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs.
- Affordability of cultural events & institutions: Data from an economic impact study of arts and cultural organizations in North Texas, commissioned by the North Texas Business for Culture and the Arts (NTBCA)
- Information about arts & cultural events: Links to information from The Dallas Morning News, the Texas Commission on the Arts, the Texas Almanac, and the Dallas Annual Calendar of Events
