This indicator describes the availability of comprehensive, reliable, and timely information for Dallas area arts and cultural events and festivities.
Why is this indicator important?
The availability of and access to arts and cultural programs and events are valuable community assets. These assets improve the quality of life within a community and contribute significantly to the economic vibrancy of a community. However, such assets within a community also run the risk of being underutilized or simply not utilized by community members. In other words, the presence of arts and cultural programs within the community is significant only to the extent that community members are made aware of them and participate in them.
This indicator is important because all public support for and participation in cultural arts programs and events is contingent upon the widespread availability and effective distribution of comprehensive, accurate, and timely information. The existence of the assets is only half of the equation—the other half is community members' awareness of the assets and their utilization of them.
How are we doing?
The counties of North Central Texas have access to a variety of information sources regarding arts and cultural programs in the region. While it is impractical to identify each and every medium that is used to communicate information about seasonal events, we can offer information about the primary sources of information available to the general public.
